Important Customer information

Since 1st January 1997 new legislation has changed the way in which vocational driving licences are obtained. The following notes are intended to help you clearly understand what you must do in order to obtain a vocational licence. Firstly you must have a full licence to drive a car (group B). You must be a minimum age 18 yrs. for a C1 and C1+E and 21 yrs. for LGV / HGV or PVC.

The next stage is to complete the forms required to apply for your provisional licence.D2 and D4 (available from main tax offices) making sure you tick the appropriate boxes marked C1, C1+E and / or D on the form D2. Next you should arrange for a medical examination with a doctor of your choice, who will complete the "Medical Report" form D4 for you.

When completed, forms D2 and D4 must be sent to DVLA Swansea together with your ordinary licence, which at present is free for provisional.

If all is well you should receive your new licence back from DVLA within 3 weeks. Make sure you have been granted the provisional entitlement/s you applied for.
